Description:
The City of Cedar Falls Planning and Community Services division is seeking a Planner I. This position will perform a variety of professional level work such as providing information and assistance to developers, the general public, and outside agencies; review land use, sign and flood permits; write reports and make presentations to a variety of boards; attend meetings for and provide support to a variety of boards, commissions and City Council; complete administrative tasks supporting a variety of boards and commissions; create maps and perform analysis in GIS; acquire property for roadway projects, flood relocations, redevelopment or other purposes; and prepare grant applications for special projects. The position works under the direction of the Planning and Community Services Manager.
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with various boards, commissions, departments and the general public. The successful candidate must be an effective public speaker and possess proven writing skills. A self-motivated, highly enthusiastic, and technically competent candidate is sought. An ability to complete multiple projects in a timely and effective manner is necessary. The position may require attendance at evening meetings and public hearings, as well as limited field work; therefore, the employee must be flexible in their scheduling.
Experience and education requirements include: 0-2 years of experience in urban, city or regional planning, code enforcement, economic development or closely related area. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, economic/community development, public administration, code enforcement or closely related field.
Starting salary $53,770, based on qualifications and experience. Completion of a questionnaire and forwarding official transcripts will be required after a pool of qualified applicants is approved by the Civil Service Commission. Interviews will later follow with selected candidates after the Civil Service list is certified. Post-offer, pre-employment physical and drug screen will be required. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
