They also provide daily care, feeding and exercise of boarding and hospitalized pets.
He or she also pays close attention to pets' status such as signs of stress and changes in eating or elimination habits, promptly notifying doctors when a pet needs medical attention.
Proper documentation and accurate completion of boarding forms and cage cards is critical.
A veterinary assistant must also follow hospital sanitation procedures.
Care for boarding and hospitalized animals.
Walk through the kennel area frequently and check each pet for abnormal activity and reporting it to doctors Restrain patients for procedures performed by technicians or doctors Administer medications and record when given on med sheet Give baths according to hospital procedures Perform in-house lab tests Fill prescriptions as directed by a doctor Mark records to note for eating, drinking and elimination Feed and water animals according to schedules unless directed otherwise by a doctor Clean and disinfect cages, runs and yard as needed, following kennel policy and procedures.
Operate washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry Walk boarding pets Collect any samples requested by the doctor or technician Understand infectious diseases and how to control and prevent their spread Restock shelves and drawers in exam rooms and treatment area Monitor inventory levels for kennel supplies and notify office manager when items are needed Help maintain clean exam rooms, treatment area and surgical suite Keep yard picked up and free from trash and stool Check in early arrivals Any other duties as assigned Assist receptionists as needed Assist in training new Veterinary Assistants Assist technicians with care in treatment of animals.
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Vet Assisting License recommended but not required Minimum age requirement of 18 years Physical Obligations:
Able to lift up to 40 pounds Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods Able to type information into the computer Able to work in noisy work conditions Able to restrain animals Job Type:
